Nicorette patches are worn during the day and removed at night. This is particularly suited to those patients who have suffered disturbed sleep when using a 24 hour patch.

Indications (Use):

For the treatment of nicotine dependence, and for the relief of withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation.

Directions for use:

Adults: treatment should last 3 months. One 15mg patch daily applied on waking (in the morning) and removed 16 hours later (at bedtime). This dose should be continued for 8 weeks. This period should be followed using a 10mg patch daily for 2 weeks and then one 5mg patch daily for a further two weeks. Children: not to be used under 18 years.

Ingredients:

Transdermal delivery system available in sizes of 30, 20 and 10 cm², containing per cm²: Nicotine 0.83mg.

Warnings

Use with caution with peptic ulcer, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, skin disorders (e.g. psoriasis, chronic dermatitis, urticaria), angina, recent MI, cerebrovascular accident, recent stroke, hypertension and peripheral vascular disease and serious cardiac arrhythmias.

Contraindicated (must not be used) in pregnancy, lactation, non-tobacco smokers and hypersensitive patients. Not for use under 18 years of age.

For those smoking more than 20 cigarettes per day

Nicotinell patches are worn during the day and night (replaced every 24 hours). This is particularly suited to those patients who suffer from cigarette cravings on waking.

Indications (Use):

For the treatment of nicotine dependence, and for the relief of withdrawal symptoms associated with smoking cessation.

Directions for use:

Adults: treatment should last a maximum of three 3 months. One TTS 30 STEP-1 (21mg) patch daily applied on waking (in the morning) and removed 24 hours later. For those smoking less than 20 cigarettes per day, start with one TTS 20 patch daily - see below. This dose should be continued for 4 weeks. This period should be followed using a TTS 20 STEP-2 (14mg) patch daily for 4 weeks and then one TTS 10 STEP-3 (7mg) patch daily for a further 4 weeks if necessary. Children: not to be used under 18 years.

Directions for use:

Adult smokers aged 18 years or over: more than 10 cigarettes per day, start with step 1 for 6 weeks, then continue with step 2 for 2 weeks, then finish with step 3 for 2 weeks. 10 cigarettes or less, start with step 2 for 6 weeks, then finish with step 3 for 2 weeks. Not to be used for more than 10 consecutive weeks

Apply patch to clean skin site once a day, preferably on waking. Remove patch after 24 hours and apply new patch to fresh skin site. Only 1 patch to be worn at a time. See pack leaflet for further information
